Like so many of us, in early adulthood, Dr. Rose found herself living a life molding herself to everyone else’s expectations without question or complaint. As a young girl, her life was changed at the age of 12 after her father whom she was extremely close to, suffered a debilitating stroke that left him with dementia and unable to walk or care for himself. Along with her mother and siblings, she became a caregiver to her father and would often spend her days after school feeding, changing diapers and caregiving for the man that once cared for her. After graduating highschool she entered the honors program at Eastern Michigan University on an academic scholarship. It was there that her academic dedication garnered her the Scholar of the Year Award at the end of her freshman year.

During her sophomore year Dr. Rose experienced an unplanned pregnancy. Though many predicted she would drop out of college as most statistics suggested, the pregnancy proved to motivate her more to prove the naysayers wrong. She ultimately took her finals while in active labor on the day before Christmas break of her junior year, went directly to the hospital where she gave birth to her first son, and returned after the holiday break to complete her junior year. A year later, she graduated on time, Magna Cum Laude, with honors distinction. Shortly after completing undergrad, she married her child’s father and started graduate school while working full time. She gave birth to her second son just before finishing her masters degree and immediately started her PhD program in clinical psychology.

Dr. Rose seemed to have it all. At the age of 30, she had everything life said would make you happy, the career, the family, and the house in the suburbs. She also found out she was pregnant with her third child - a girl! Five months into her pregnancy, and just after completing her doctoral program, Dr. Rose’s mother had a stroke that nearly took her life. Dr. Rose now found herself not only taking shifts in caring for her mother during her recovery, but was back to caregiving her father just as she did as a young girl. Shortly after the birth of her third child, Dr. Rose’s father died, 18 years after suffering his debilitating stroke. It was at this point that all the years of disconnect from herself, all the years of caring for others, all the grief she never allowed herself to feel, came crashing down on her. It was through grief and the realization that she had been existing in a state of distraction via perpetual motion since the age of 12 that Dr. Rose began the deliberate journey of rediscovering her authentic self.

Through years of professional study and application, Dr. Rose had identified, developed, and used with her clients a comprehensive personality inventory, which she aptly named after flowers known for their Blooms: Mums, Tulips, Poppies, and Wildflowers. Turning that inventory to herself, she realized that since the trauma of taking care of a parent, she’d been living as a “Mum/Poppy” (a stabilizer/nurturer) when the essence of her true self was a “Tulip/Wildflower” (an innovator/adventurer).

As Dr. Rose rediscovered her authentic self, she underwent drastic life changes, including ending her 12-year marriage and becoming a single parent to four children whom she was providing the majority of support for. Dr. Rose also experienced radical emotional changes, finally allowing the composed exterior she wore as a defense since the age of 12 to fall away. She gave herself permission to experience a full spectrum of emotions - from tears to unbridled joy. As she blossomed, she developed and honed her BLOOM: 7 Steps to Personal Transformation System, sharing it with her clients, as well as applying them to her own life. Through her personal journey of transformation and the rediscovery of self, Dr. Rose became the relatable, authentic, and insightful person so many love and seek out today.

Dr. Rose captures and imparts all of these concepts in her best-selling, life-changing book Bloom: 7 Steps to Personal Transformation.
